The Team

I practice exclusively in Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation, handling the tax and ERISA aspects within these fields, and related issues. My specialty is fixing problems, often finding creative solutions within the context of the Internal Revenue (Tax) Code, ERISA, and related guidance. I design and negotiate compensation structures, provide compliance guidance, deal with IRS and DOL, and draft documents and agreements.
I work with for-profit, not-for-profit, and governmental employers to design and manage compensation and benefits programs that meet each organization’s objectives and comply with the myriad governing rules. These rules are voluminous and complex, and, in my opinion, working with them is fun. Many of the plans that I work with have specific tax advantages when properly implemented and maintained.
I also am honored to provide counsel to law firms, TPAs, CPAs and investment advisors that have deep expertise in corporate, tax, and pension matters but need a partner with specific knowledge and experience in my niche in order to provide best-in-class guidance to their clients.

I have done extensive work in the employee benefits aspects of mergers and acquisitions, representing both buyers and sellers. I regularly assist employers with redesigning employee benefits structures, total rewards programs, fiduciary responsibilities, and executive oversight of benefits matters, including compliance reviews. I handle IRS and Department of Labor audits with respect to employee benefits and regularly deal with the Employee Plans/Tax Exempt Organizations branch of IRS on benefits programs and tax-exemption.

I have a particular concentration in the defense wage and hour litigation, including collective and class actions.
On behalf of employers, I prepare employee handbooks, employment agreements, NDAs, restrictive covenants, separation agreements, staffing agreements, and independent contractor (vendor) agreements. For executives, I review and advise on employment agreements and all other manner of employment related documentation.
Relying on my two decades of experience, I provide expert advice and counsel to employers on myriad day-to-day employment related matters, including wage and hour compliance; family and medical leave policies and practices; pregnancy and disability accommodations; anti-discrimination and harassment policies and training; hiring, discipline, and discharge of employees; independent contractor relationships; and restructurings and layoffs
